What’s Your EQ?
One the most powerful traits of an effective leader is their EQ or emotional intelligence. We tend to choose our leaders based on other traits, intelligence, demonstrated success in the field or even their perceived strength of personality or charisma. However, our self-awareness and the ability to be aware of the emotions and thoughts of others is critical in developing healthy teams and for bringing out the best in those we work with.
While our personalities are “hard wired” and fixed, our emotional intelligence lives in an area in our brain that is very “plastic." Therefore, we can improve our EQ with work and focused attention. This is good news for all of us interested in becoming better leaders, better partners, and better friends. Consider spending some time and energy on developing your EQ. One great resource is “Insight”, a book by Tasha Eurich, PhD.
